Mickey Jacob is the Managing Principal of the firm Urban Studio Architects which has grown in its 22 years of existence to provide of Architecture and Interior Architectureservices in a variety of project types in the Tampa area and the State of Florida with a focus on sustainable design practices. Mickeyoversees the day-to-day business operations, the development of the firm’s strategic direction as well as the implementation of business development and marketing efforts.

AIA involvement to give back and to take on leadership roles to serve the profession is an important aspect of Mickey’s career. Throughout his tenure in leadership positions in AIA Local (AIA Tampa Bay President 1998), State (AIA Florida Vice President 2001-2002, President 2004-2005) and National (AIA Florida/Caribbean Regional Director 2007-2009) Components, Mickey has understood the value of building relationships by collaborating with his colleagues and tirelessly devoting his time and energy to
representing the AIA.

Currently Mickey is serving as a 2010-2011 AIA Vice President, chairs the Board Advocacy Committee and also co-chairs the joint AIA/NCARB Intern Development Program Advisory Council. At the 2011 AIA Convention in New Orleans, Mickey was elected the 2012 President-Elect and the 2013 President of the American Institute of Architects.

As an AIA leader, Mickey has been responsible for the creation and implementation of many programs that are being used by AIA Components nationwide. For his work as a leader in the AIA Mickey has been awarded the 1999 AIA Tampa Bay Medal of Honor, the 2008 AIA Florida Gold Medal and was elevated to the AIA College of Fellows in 2009 for his work in “Service to the Profession”.
